Genoa

From its birth as a city-state, Genoa has witnessed several periods of growth (such as during the Renaissance, when the city attracted artists such as Van Dyck, Rubens and Caravaggio) but also challenges (namely the plague that killed almost half of Genoa’s population).

Among Genoa’s main architectural landmarks we find churches (the St. Lawrence Cathedral, the Church of San Donato, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata and several others), palaces (Palazzo Rosso, Palazo Bianco, Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Grimaldi) and squares, such as Piazza de Ferrari. Genoa is also famous for being the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

Finding a hotel in Genoa

The area comprised between the Piazza Principe and the Galleria del Palazzo Reale can be a very good place to start looking for a hotel in Genoa. If your hotel in Genoa is situated in this area, the port and the aquarium will be easy to reach. Similarly, quite a few hotels in Genoa are located the streets adjacent to Via 25 Aprile. If your hotel lies in this side of the city, Genoa’s most famous hotspot- Piazza de Ferrari will be within walking distance. However, if one books a hotel in Genoa’s civic centre, many of the city’s galleries and museums will be located close by.
